The agreement covering the TraceUI web app, the browser extension and the components you create with them.
Effective Date: 15 September 2026|Last updated: 15 September 2026
Introduction
These Terms of Service (the "Terms") are an agreement between you and TraceUI ("we", "us", "our"). They cover the TraceUI web app at traceui.dev, the TraceUI browser extension, and everything we provide through them (together, the "Service"). By creating an account, installing the extension or using the Service, you accept these Terms. If you do not accept them, please do not use the Service.
TraceUI lets you select an element on a web page, transcribes its markup and takes a cropped screenshot, sends both to an AI model, and returns a standalone React component you can edit and export. Captures are stored in your library.
TraceUI is a tool for transcribing and reconstructing interface designs. It does not grant you any right to the designs, code, brands or content you capture. Those rights belong to whoever holds them, and section 3 is about your responsibility for that.
1. Using TraceUI and Your Account
You must be at least 16 years old, or at least 13 with the consent of a parent or guardian where local law allows.
You are responsible for everything that happens under your account and for keeping your credentials secure. One account is for one person. Please add teammates as their own accounts.
The extension is distributed through browser extension stores and is also subject to that store's terms. It may update automatically so it keeps working with the web app, and we may stop supporting older versions.
Tell us at support@traceui.dev as soon as you suspect unauthorised use of your account.
2. Plans, Billing and Refunds
TraceUI offers a free plan and paid plans. The features, prices and limits of each are described on our pricing page, which forms part of these Terms.
Payments are taken by Dodo Payments, subject to their own terms. Subscriptions renew automatically at the then-current price until you cancel; one-time plans are charged once and do not renew.
You can cancel at any time from your account settings or the customer portal. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. You keep paid access until then, and we do not pro-rate a partial period.
We will refund a first purchase in full if you ask within 14 days of paying. Refunds after that, and refunds of a renewal, are at our discretion. If you are a consumer, any statutory right of withdrawal you have applies in addition to this.
We may change prices. If a change affects a plan you are on, we will give you at least 30 days' notice by email and it takes effect at your next renewal. Prices include taxes unless stated otherwise.
3. What You Capture From Other Sites
This is the most important section of these Terms.
TraceUI reproduces interface designs from web pages. Those designs, and the code and content behind them, are usually protected by copyright, and the names and logos in them are usually trademarks. TraceUI gives you a way to transcribe them; it does not give you permission to use them.
You are solely responsible for what you capture and what you do with it. By using the Service you confirm that, for every capture you make, you either own the rights, have permission, or are acting within an exception that applies where you are such as fair use or fair dealing, study, or genuine inspiration rather than reproduction.
You agree not to use TraceUI to:
Copy a site's or product's interface wholesale in a way that infringes copyright or passes your product off as someone else's.
Reproduce logos, wordmarks or brand assets in a way that suggests an affiliation or endorsement you do not have.
Capture from a site in breach of that site's own terms of use, or circumvent a paywall, access control or technical protection measure.
Capture other people's personal, confidential or regulated data, see section 3 of our Privacy Policy.
Where a capture reproduces protected material, treat the result as a reference, not as shippable code. The judgement about what you can lawfully use is yours, and if you are unsure, ask a lawyer rather than assume.
4. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
Break the law, infringe anyone's rights, or use the Service to harm anyone.
Attempt to gain unauthorised access to the Service, to other accounts, or to the systems behind them.
Probe, scan, overload or interfere with the Service, or work around rate limits, quotas or plan restrictions.
Automate, scrape or resell the Service, or use it to build a competing product.
Reverse engineer any part of the Service except as the law expressly permits, or submit prompts intended to extract our system prompts or model credentials.
Upload malware, or use a capture to inject harmful code into anything.
5. Content: Yours and Ours
Captures you make, prompts you write, edits you make and components you generate are yours, subject to any rights a third party holds in the underlying material under section 3. We claim no ownership of them, and no rights in the components the Service generates for you.
So that we can run the Service, you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, transmit, display and process your content including sending it to our AI providers to generate a component. This exists only to operate the Service for you, and ends when you delete the content or your account.
We will not use your content to train our own models, we will not sell it, and we will not publish it.
The Service itself, the web app, the extension, our prompts, our design system and the TraceUI name and logo belongs to us and our licensors. These Terms grant you a limited, revocable, non-exclusive licence to use the Service as intended, and nothing more.
Feedback you send us is welcome and we may use it freely, without obligation to you.
6. AI Output
Components are produced by AI models and are provided as-is. They may be wrong, incomplete, inaccessible, insecure, or a poor match for the original, and they may reproduce parts of the source page more closely than you intend.
Review and test generated code before you use it in anything real, and do not rely on it where an error would be costly or unsafe.
You remain responsible for the code you ship, including its licensing, security and accessibility.
Model providers may change their models, and we may change which provider we use, so output for the same capture may differ over time.
7. Copyright Complaints
If you believe material stored on TraceUI infringes your copyright, write to support@traceui.dev with: your contact details; identification of the work; identification of the material and where it is; a statement that you believe in good faith that the use is not authorised; and a statement that the notice is accurate and that you are authorised to act.
We will investigate, remove infringing material where appropriate, and terminate the accounts of repeat infringers.
8. Availability, Suspension and Termination
We aim to keep TraceUI available, but we do not promise uninterrupted service. We may carry out maintenance, and we may add, change or remove features.
If we discontinue a material part of the Service, we will give reasonable notice and, where you have paid in advance for something you can no longer use, a pro-rata refund.
You can delete your account at any time from settings. That deletes your captures and screenshots, so export anything you want to keep first.
We may suspend or terminate your account if you breach these Terms, if your use puts the Service or other users at risk, or if we are required to by law. Where circumstances allow, we will warn you first and give you a chance to put it right.
Sections that by their nature should survive: your responsibility for captures, our intellectual property, disclaimers, liability and governing law survive termination.
9. Disclaimers, Liability and Indemnity
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, and any warranty that generated components will be accurate, complete, secure or fit for the use you have in mind.
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, nor for lost profits, revenue, data or business opportunity. Our total liability arising out of or relating to the Service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or one hundred US dollars (US$100).
In particular, we are not liable for any claim arising from what you chose to capture or from how you used a generated component that responsibility sits with you under section 3, and you agree to cover any claim, loss or reasonable legal cost we face because of it.
Nothing here excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, and if you are a consumer, your statutory rights are unaffected.
10. Governing Law and General
If you are a consumer, you keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country you live in. Before starting formal proceedings, please write to support@traceui.dev so we can try to resolve things directly.
If a provision is found unenforceable, the rest stays in force.
Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of it.
You may not transfer these Terms without our consent; we may transfer them as part of a merger, acquisition or sale of assets.
11. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms. Any update will be published with a revised "Last updated" date at the top. For material changes we will give at least 30 days' notice by email or in the app, and continuing to use the Service after that means you accept the new Terms. If you do not accept them, please stop using the Service and cancel your plan.
